What is Life Coaching?
Part consultant, part motivational speaker, part therapist and part rent-a-friend, coaches work with managers, entrepreneurs, and just plain folks, helping them define and achieve their goals — career, personal, or most often, both. — Newsweek
Who Uses a Life Coach?
- An article in Public Management revealed a study where training alone was compared to life coaching combined with training. The study showed that training alone increased productivity by 22.4% while training combined with weekly life coaching increased productivity by 88%.
- People that are desirous of having positive results in their lives.
- People that want an accomplished coach that can help them pull off their known or not-so-known intentions; whether they involve personal, familial or career or career endeavors.
- People want a coach who can successfully navigate them from any existing situation to their ideal scene; with no make-wrongs, invalidation or evaluation. This is what great coaches routinely do.
What are the benefits of taking a Life Coaching workshop?
Our workshops are designed to put you on the fast track to achieve your goals. They’re the perfect combination of acquiring new knowledge and having an assigned coach who will ensure the correct estimation of effort to close the gap of where you are at and where you intend to get to.
It’s your commitment and your coach’s direction and that sometime “swift kick in the butt” that tends to achieve that elusive goal.
Compatibility – Why Life Coaching?
Over 50% of those who enter into a relationship either get divorced or split up.
For literally thousands of years that failure rate was less than 5%.
What changed? It all had to do with Compatibility or the lack of it – Incompatibility.
Up until the start of the 20th Century there were only five or six key compatibility characteristics which caused couples to come together and stay together; they were race, religion, the desire to have children, economics, a stable partner and what Mom and Dad said to do.
Note: Love based relationships were not part of the main criteria. Please also note that the U.S. along with most countries in the world was almost totally male dominated. Women in most parts of the country were second class citizens who were treated much like physical possessions.
The Women’s Movement in the U.S. (which was the single most dynamic phenomena for change that this country and world would see) and the economic expansion in the U.S. commencing about this same time gave women the economic freedom that they needed to truly be independent. When these two phenomena were combined, it threw off the final yoke of suppression that men had on women.
This massive change which caused the compatibility characteristics that brought people together and caused them to remain together went from 6 to over 260 characteristics.
While commitment is extremely important in holding a relationship together, commitment pales if the compatibility on the most important issues wane or are unaligned.
Almost all people come together for some good reasons. But far too many of them decide to get married or develop a significant relationship based upon compatibility characteristics that are simply not sustainable. There are tools that can improve almost any couple’s compatibility.
At Optimum Compatibility, helping you find the right person is our specialty.
We also specialize in training those with existing relationships on how they can optimize their compatibility.
How Are We Different? How does Life Coaching differ from consulting, therapy, sports coaching, or even a best friend?
Consulting. Life coaching can be considered a form of consulting. However, consulting is often information and expertise based. For example, you might hire a consultant to help your business with a specific problem, in which case you’d expect your consultant to have knowledge and experience in that particular area. Life coaches, on the other hand, may or may not have a background or experience in your field. A coach is a life specialist, an expert on helping you develop all areas of your business and personal life. Unlike many consultants who propose a solution and leave you to implement it, the life coach stays with you to help you integrate the changes, new skills, and goals to make sure they really happen. This is one reason why coaching is so effective–it is one thing to have the information and quite another to actually make the change!
Therapy. Life coaching is not therapy. Coaches don’t work on past-based issues or traumas. Life coaches are not psychologists or psychotherapists. If you start the process of life coaching, and have not resolved a past issue, then it is very likely you will be referred to work with a therapist or minister to resolve the issue. It is very common for unresolved traumas to stop us from getting what we want in our lives. Life coaches focus on the present and the client’s goals for the future. We help people move forward and set personal and professional goals that will give them the life they really want. Most life coaching clients are healthy, successful people who might be a bit stuck or simply want to make a big change in their lives and want the support of their own personal coach to do so.
Sports. Life coaching often includes principles from sports coaching, such as being your best, doing more than you think you can, working with a team, going for the goal. But unlike sports coaching, most professional coaching is not a competition. Your life coach will help you win in your own life!
Best friend. A best friend or two or three is wonderful to have. But is your best friend an objective professional who you can trust to advise you on the most important aspects of your life or business? Sometimes our friends can’t tell us the truth as much as they would like to because they don’t want to risk losing the friendship. A good life coach is never afraid to tell you the truth and is willing to be fired at any time. Why not have a best friend and a life coach?
- Coaching focuses exclusively on –
- your goals;
- your dreams and illusions;
- not your aberrations, nightmares or delusions.
- You can raise a person’s effectiveness, production, and morale by zeroing in on their rightness versus their wrongness.
- In doing so we can raise self-esteem, appreciation and create an environment that is life-changing.
